It purifies the mind, destroys ignorance, and illuminates the path of truth. The vibration of “Ra” activates the solar plexus chakra (Manipura), the centre of personal power, confidence, and willpower. It stokes the inner fire of transformation — the fire that digests not only food but also experiences, emotions, and thoughts.

This syllable invokes the energy of the Divine Mother — Shakti in all her forms. When you chant “Ma,” you activate the heart chakra (Anahata), the centre of love, compassion, and emotional healing. The vibration of “Ma” calms the mind, reduces anxiety, opens the heart to unconditional love, and connects you to the nurturing energy of the universe.
“Ma” is also the first sound a human being makes — the cry for the mother. It is the most natural, the most primal, and the most powerful expression of the human need for love, comfort, and connection. In the Rama Mantram, “Ma” balances the fiery energy of “Ra” with gentleness and grace.
Ra + Ma = Rama: The Perfect Balance
When “Ra” (fire, sun, purification, transformation) and “Ma” (moon, cooling, nurturing, healing) are combined, they create a perfect balance of masculine and feminine energies, of Shiva and Shakti, of destruction and creation. The Rama Mantram is therefore a complete spiritual practice in just two syllables. It purifies and heals simultaneously. It destroys the old and nurtures the new. It burns away darkness and fills the space with light.
This is why Mahatma Gandhi chose “Ram” as his final utterance. This is why saints and sages across centuries have called the Rama Mantram the “Taraka Mantra” — the mantra that carries you across the ocean of worldly suffering to the shore of liberation.

For a structured practice, sit comfortably in a quiet place, close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and begin chanting “Sri Ram, Jai Ram, Jai Jai Ram” or simply “Ram, Ram, Ram.” Use a mala (prayer beads) of 108 beads if you wish. Chant with devotion, letting each repetition carry you deeper into stillness. Even a few minutes of daily practice can bring noticeable changes in your mental clarity, emotional stability, and spiritual awareness.
